RENE RUSJAN

Rene Rusjan was born on 23 April, 1962, in Ljubljana. She studied sculpture under the supervision of Prof Slavko Tihec at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, graduating in 1987. In 1987/1988, she taught art at the Secondary Shool of Education in Ljubljana, and she has been working as freelance artist since 1988. In 1986, she participated in the international competition for young sculptors in Aberdeen, Scotland, and later on in Forma viva in Ravne na Koroškem, and workshops in Marušići, Prilep in Macedonia, and Marino near Rome, Italy. She has also done environmental design, such as Topolovo in Slavia Friulana, Portici inattuali in Sitran D’Alpago, Italy, Mala galerija in Ljubljana in 1997… She is also the co-founder of the Cultural Association Gallery GT and the School of Applied Arts Famul Stuart, where she acts as the chief supervisor in the Contemporary Art Practices module and as a professional supervisor in the field of visual arts and sculpture. She is active in the field of contemporary arts; in addition to teaching activities, she is also active in the field of visual, intermedia and performing arts, design, set design and curating exhibitions. In 2014, the City Art Gallery Ljubljana (Mestna galerija Ljubljana) staged the most comprehensive presentation to date of the sculptor’s opus, which spans a quarter of a century. She lives and works in Ljubljana.
