YVES TRUDEAU

Yves Trudeau was born on 3 December, 1930, in Montreal, Canada. He started drawing and modelling very early on. When he was fourteen, he started learning the skills of pottery in master Adrien Vilandré’s ceramic workshop. After finishing high school, he attended the School of Fine Arts (Ecole des Beaux Arts) in Montreal. He went on to study ceramics under the supervision of Gaëtano Beaudin in North Halley in Quebec. In 1960, he was the initiator and founder, and later on long-time president, of the Quebec Sculpture Association (Association des sculpteurs du Québec, now Conseil de la sculpture du Québec). He has received several national awards for his work. He was a professor of sculpture at Le Camp des Arts des Jeunesses Musicales du Canada and a professor in the department of fine arts at the University of Quebec (UQAM) in Montreal. He is one of the most prominent sculptors in Canada; he has created a number of important public sculptures and has held exhibitions in Europe and in Canada. His works are on display in several museums in Canada. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and a member of L’Ordre du Canada. He lives and works in Montreal.
