Ulica je dobila ime po železniški progi Grobelno – Rogatec (1903), zgrajeni pred več kot 100 leti, ki poteka skozi Rogaško Slatino. V tistem času je proga predstavljala pomembno prometnico, po kateri je potekal tovorni in potniški promet.
