Architect Max Fabiani and the chrysanthemum motif

Architect Max Fabiani (Kobdilj, 24th April 1865 – Gorica, 14th August 1962) drew a pattern for a lacy table cloth with the chrysanthemum motif in 1922. The Office for the support of little craft gave it as a gift to the Italian queen Jelena on the occasion of her visit of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

Fourteen girls from Idrija lace school made it in just two days. The gift was handed over to the queen by one of the pupils dressed in the Slovene national costume. In 1923 Max Fabiani as vice president of the Office for the support of little craft designed the renovation of the patterns of the Royal lace school in Gorica and probably influenced very much the development of lacemaking in the Goriška region.
